Losing Streak and More Primo
Since we last left you, Josh Primo was publicly accused of impropriety, and the Spurs organization was implicated along with him. The accuser had a press conference and a lawyer and a lot of quotes from people who vouched for the one-time Spurs employee’s credentials. Popovich forcefully defended the organization’s reputation saying “Anybody that has observed the Spurs over a very long period of time knows that an accusation like this would be taken very seriously without any doubt whatsoever. No equivocation, the Spurs organization would be on top of it.”
There is no doubt he believes that, but it doesn’t mean Dr. Hillary Cauthen is wrong. The Spurs say they “disagree about the timeline, and facts” and a lawsuit will reveal more information. It is possible that the organization and Cauthen simply view the facts differently and neither is lying or anything.
The Spurs did release Primo, and they reportedly did so after a number of accusations were made. They also did extend his contract and make him the face of marketing. For the Spurs to come out of this smelling like roses would mean that they found out more in a very short window of time. This is where their contention about the timeline is a big deal. She says it began late last year and nothing happened up to the summer time. If that is so, that means the Spurs were promoting him while fielding accusations. If, somehow, the Spurs were concluding an investigation and it only resulted in disciplinary action (the release) later, then their version makes some more sense.
Of course there is also Primo, whose representatives are making the argument that it was all a misunderstanding and also a case of young vs old plus also trauma. That is a tough sell, bud.
Meanwhile, the Spurs fell back to earth after a few injuries and some poor play. It was bound to happen, as you cannot pick on the T-Wolves forever ;).
Keldon Johnson is shooting the lights out, but the Spurs are still trying to find some sense of consistency. No one is so important that they cannot be replaced, but that also means that the entirety of the group needs to play well for the Spurs to win.
That said, the pups are out competing hard every night out, and getting close. They are right there and that is a lot of fun. For yours truly, my personal schedule means that I have to watch the squad on league pass in chunks, instead of appointment viewing. This makes for some odd interpretations of the rhythms of the game, especially when I know the score.
Oh and on that note. In case you are wondering why there are infrequent postings, consider that this site is unfunded, and there are other interests pulling me away, some of which are income-producing. When it comes time to write, I write for the paying customers first and you free-loaders next ; ).
