One Blowout Deserves Another
The Spurs were spanked by the Warriors after the Dejounte game. It was coming, wasn’t it? We wrote how the one player like Steph can reach those heights more easily than can a role player. Steph did not have to go supernova, but he dominated the first half. The Warriors continued getting easy buckets and the Spurs looked like they had no answer to a shaky defense.
The Hawks have a guy who can do some Curry-like stuff in Trae Young, but that team is still figuring out how to contend. I cannot say whether or not that was the reason for the ass-kicking the Spurs gave Atlanta, but it was fun to watch.
Basketball is such a rhythm and feel game that it makes sense that a team’s performance follows that. When you are watching so closely — like we are — it is easy to lose that perspective and just simply stare, frustratedly.
There are a handful of categories of blowouts.
We cannot score, and they are scoring normally — it gets away from you
We are doing normal scoring, and they cannot miss — the shake your head games
We are turning the ball over and allowing easy buckets to supplement their normal scoring — frustration
We have no defense
The first one above was the Warriors game, and the last one was the Hawks game. Atlanta looked like they did not know they could defend the Spurs attacking the basket.
