It is draftnik time, and I am not much of a draft guy. For a long time, the Spurs were always picking near the end of the night, looking for Euro stashers, a random Pac-12 guy, and other roster-fillers. We would see them develop (maybe) and pat the organization on the back for finding talent where no one would dare go. The rest of it is for losers — ahem. Losing teams.
You lose a lot you get the big star with the incredibly detailed draft write-ups by Kevin O’Connor or someone. People need something to read. I am not hating, just explaining why I don’t have a huge interest in the draft. Now that the Spurs are amongst the losers — ahem, lottery winners, we have to care.
Here are a couple of interesting things:
Bronny James is an ATH-A-LETE who will require some development time. Might do to take a flyer on a combo guard who can contribute long-term with a super high-IQ.
Draft an Athlete - Sure, Nikola Jokic is not dunking on dudes like Blake Griffin, but he’s not a schlub. But if you want a pogo stick in basketball player form, consider the athletic results of the combine:
Maybe don’t draft a pogo-stick. Henry Abbott complains that we have too many injured players in the playoffs and that bad science is the cause. I think the league needs to be shorter. But that means less money. No one wants that.
